Please spay and neuter your pet!

Our community has an overpopulation of companion animals:
That is putting it mildly. Translation: every month, hundreds (probably more) animals are being euthanized because they have no home or guardians. And these are not just stray or feral animals. These are also happy & healthy companion animals that have had their lives taken because there simply are not enough homes and guardians. The only immediate solution is to reduce the number of animals being born, thereby reducing the number of animals who need homes.
Every animal in our organization is sterlized prior to going home with their new family or new guardian - no exceptions. We are being a part of the solution by keeping animals out of the Sumner County Animal Control system and by not adding to the population of homeless animals.
Be smart & be a part of the solution - please spay or neuter (sterilize) your animal!

Benefits of Sterilization: In addition to saving lives, spaying and neutering can also drastically improve your pet's health and life expectancy. The idea that pets become overweight or lazy when they are sterilized is a myth. Sterilized companion animals lead healthier and longer lives. Spaying a female eliminates the possibility of uterine and ovarian cancer and greatly reduces the risk of breast cancer. Neutering a male reduces the risk of both prostate enlargement and prostate cancer. Neutering also will make your pet more affectionate and less likely to roam, get in fights, or become lost.
Spaying a female dog or cat eliminates her heat cycle. In dogs, the cycle can last up to 21 days & occur 2 or more times a year. In cats, the cycle can range between 3 to 15 days and occur 3 or more times a year. Females in heat often cry incessantly, show nervous behavior and attract unwanted male animals.
SANS ~ Spay and Neuter Sumner: Until we are SANS (without) the overpopulation of animals) please sterilize your pets. We have some wonderful folks in our community who donate their time, talents, and expertise to offer options for animal sterilization. Special thanks to our participating Sumner County Veterinarians who are on the fore-front of helping to put an end to this over-population.
