Macon County Tornado

The Macon County Animals
The storms which passed through Tennessee in early February 2008 left displaced
animals in Macon and surrounding counties.
TN DART authorized two groups to rescue animals
from the Macon County disaster zone -
Wilson DART and HSUS disaster services. A temporary
shelter was established to house these displaced animals. When the HSUS disaster team
demobilized, the remaining unclaimed animals were placed with three organizations:

Nashville Humane Association
The Humane Society of Sumner County
Rutherford County Paws

A list of these animals has been posted in the Macon County newspaper and photos
have been posted in three locations (including the Lafayette police department).
If you are a Macon county resident and recognize the photo of your animal(s) posted,
please contact one of the organizations listed above and visit them during business hours.

Please bring with you:
A description of your animal
Proof of ownership (vet records, photographs)
Valid ID which proves Macon County Residence

At our facility, these animals will available for adoption by the general public after March 12, 2008.

Special thanks to Jennie Huettel for assisting with the relief efforts of the HSUS Disaster Relief Team
and for sharing her incredible photos!
